It's 1991, Hull - The Acid Jazz scene hits the East Yorkshire coast.... Singer & founder member Lyn Acton, meets original guitarist Karl Arthur whilst waiting for a taxi outside a nightclub.... they bond over their shared love of great funk and soul records, and the rest as they say, is funk-history.

They went on to recruit local musicians with the chops to fulfil the vision, and were soon gigging and recording through the early 90's at festivals and venues renowned for fans of cool, funky, soul and latin-tinged vibes – attracting the attention of the Acid Jazz label itself. Unfortunately, the funk fizzled out a mere 5 years later as some band members relocated from the city...

After a twenty-year hiatus they reunited to celebrate 100 years of Hull's famous Welly Club. This one-off was so popular amongst old and new fans that they just won't let them go.....The band’s musical roots hold fast today, however they are not a retro outfit. The band are still writing and performing new music in their sweat soaked live performances…

The Colours EP was released in 2015, featuring two main tracks - the title track and "Sunrise", featuring a remix of Colours by Steve Cobby. "Sunrise" was also given the remix treatment by Mono-Life. This special extended nine-minute mix was played in full on BBC 6 Music.

Since the release of their widely acclaimed debut album BEAT ROUTES in September 2016, Pearls Cab Ride have been busy on the circuit promoting this collection of tunes in the flesh. The gigs as ever, have been hot, sweaty and sold out affairs across the North, with truly epic sets at 2017's Humber Street Sesh and Freedom Festival, and have supported Smoove & Turrell, Flamingods, 47Soul & the Hot 8 Brass Band amongst others.

January 2018 sees the release of the Autumn EP, with more new material to be released throughout the year, and a number of festival slots already locked down.... As some lucky people already know, the true magic of Pearls Cab Ride is served up by the truck load when seen live - "We People" are in the pocket, and very soon you will be too....
